The Dreaded Plateau

beginning weight 250lbs

today's 229.4

Total weight lost 20.6

BMI 38.3

cal. intake 1385

need to lose 79lbs

estimate date April 13, 2015

I now go to the doctor every six months for a check up...On the left is the doctors scale and on the right is mine.
For the last month I have been on a plateau. I have been waiving between 230 to 228...up and down. No higher, no lower.
My doctor sat with me and explained how plateau's work. She said it is time for me to up my exercise program. Yoga is nice, she says, but you need to get out there and get your heart pumping. Cardio is good for burning calories, and helping you to get your blood pressure down.
What did I hear her say? Sign up for the Lazyman Triathlon.
So that is exactly what Sarah and I did.
We have now added walking/running 26.2 miles, swimming  2.5 miles, and biking 112 miles,to our yoga routine.
The Lazyman Triathlon is a one month long program to get all the activities in.
I have said this before, it's the swimming that  my body responds to. I'm at a point in my weight loss journey where it's now all about moving, burning calories, and getting my heart beating.

Kerry and I did the Freedom Run on Fourth of July. It is our 3rd 5K this summer.
It was a perfect day to walk around the marina. .
I got new shoes so I wont get Runner's Toes again. Note, they are still purple,  yellow and ugly.
I have since painted them with polish so I don't have to look at them.
We are getting better at our walks. I am no longer the last person to cross the finish line.
This time we even passed two groups of walkers. YEAH!!!
Kerry got 4th place in his age group and I got 12th.
I am going to buy a stop watch for our next 5K so we can keep track of our times. I can not see the screen of my phone when I'm outside.
Fourth of July came was lots of food, good and bad.
Why is it I still think I deserve to eat desserts if I exercise?
Ice Cream, brownies, fudge sauce ....
Plus after the race, I went down for a 5 hour nap!!
Have you ever napped so hard that when you woke up you thought it was the next day?
I'm mentally at a stand still. All this exercising is making me sore, and tired.
My motivation for cooking and eating right has slipped. I have stopped using my "lose it" app. which I can now see how important it is to write everything down....
I can't really afford this kind of behavior. My journey is long and I can see I'm slipping back into bad habits quickly.
So......I think I will have to weigh myself more often, write my food intake in again at each meal, and plan meals. I have the exercise part down but not the "I'm too tired to cook anything healthy".
Everything needs help and attention.

Yes, of course there's always just going into child pose and staying there until the need to snack passes.

Weigh In Day

Weigh In Day
Oh Blast!!!
Well I am sure it was bound to happen.
With all the parties, the drinking and not being able to swim. I gained 1 one.
First time since I started this journey.
Yes, it depressed me. It feels like I have wasted the whole month......
So did I eat?
Well let me tell you a little story about last night.
Never underestimate the power of a good friend.
Last night my art group went out to dinner. I immediately saw Montichrsto sandwich on the menu.
I said, yes, that's what I'm having. They are the deep fried three Decker sandwich that no one should eat. I was the last one to order. The waitress took the orders around the table, shrimp, shrimp wrapped in bacon, halibut...my turn, I just said halibut too, please. The words just fell out of my mouth. I fully intended to have the Montichristo, but I just couldn't order it.
This morning was weigh in and I may have gained but I don't think it was because I eat fish.
I looked up an interesting website this morning. I'm not on a diet plan. I count calories.
But I looked up
Food Addicts Anonymous

FAA Basic Food Plan
BreakfastLunch(4 hrs. after breakfast)
Dinner
(5 hours after lunch)
MA
(Metabolic Adjustment)

(4 hours after dinner)
1 Protein1 Protein1 Protein1 Dairy or 2 oz. Protein
1 Dairy1 Cooked Vegetable1 Cooked Vegetable1 Fruit
1 Fruit1 Fresh vegetable1 Fresh Vegetable
1 Grain or Starchy Vegetable1/2 Daily Oil1 grain or starchy vegetable
Men: add 1 fruit or 1 grain, or 1 starchy vegetable 1/2 Daily Oil
I found this site to have lots of information. I'm not sure how many calories this day is, but I think it's a lot less then I'm eating now. I eat way more protein, veg and fruit.
I have printed this and put it on my refrigerator and I'm going to use it for a week and see how I feel.
Weight gain happens. One pound could easily be water weight, muscle gain, or fat. But, the important thing is, it is just one measurement on this very long journey.
Get back on track with the next meal.
I'm so thankful for me friends. They would have let me have the montichristo, because they are not judgemental.....but I know that because we are all trying so hard. Being in good company and eating well just feels better.
Be Inspired,
~jean

YES!!! I'm in the 20's baby!!!
As you can see, it goes slow. The last weigh in is the official weight from the Doctors office.
It's the scale that started this journey.
On Mother's Day, my daughter took me for a 5K walk, that's 3.2 miles. I'm in training because I have a 5K walk coming up this Sat. in Pocatella, Id.
Looks like for that length of time I do a 22 min. mile. Not so fast, but, oh so happy to be walking again.
I'm really hoping not to be the last one to the finish line. But if it happens, I have to be happy just to participate. Those who know me, know I'm competitive and this is a hard hit on my ego,
Oh bien!!
Who is on my team for this journey.
It is true I have put together a supportive team to help me with my physical care.
1. Primary Doctor, really you can't do without one. Find one who makes you comfortable because there's just a lot of embarrassing conversations that take place in order for them to help.
2. Chiropractor, I will never live without one. My Wizard, does acupressure.
3. Acupuncturist, since I don't have one where I live, everywhere I travel, I see one.
4. Massage Therapy, This took me along to find one that was right for me. I call her a "Healer", because I believe great spirits work through her hands.
5. Yoga, so much fun, free yourself to just be a beginner.
6. Meditate, it's a must everyday
7. Swim, for me this is the activity that really burns calories.
8. Walk, joining in on walking 5K has really been fun
9.  Phone app "Lose It", extremely helpful
10. Eating only real, whole, healthy foods.
11. Supporters, that's family, friends who are there for you when you just don't want to do this anymore.
I have a long journey ahead of me. Believe me there are days when I just want to stop. But, truthfully, I can not.  So, if it doesn't challenge you it will not change you.
Of course some days are perfect!!! But most are decisions meal by meal.
This week is my daughters Birthday....just after Mother's Day.....Celebrations....
fancy foods......desserts......wine......
This is Life, celebrations never stop so I have prepared.
Here is my menu for the Birthday Dinner
Smoked glazed Chicken
Mashed potatoes, with Ranch Dressing
Green mixed salad
Garlic Bread
No Wine,,,,,probably tea
Dessert
strawberry, kiwii , coconut water pops.
(no really that's what she asked for)
Next way in will be the 29th

Weigh In Day

Weigh In Day
Yeah!! I lost a pound.
236lbs. brings it to 14 pounds gone.
BMI 38.2, only 83.6 pounds to go.
Now I should be happier. If someone can tell me why I'm not jumping around ecstatic I would like to know.
It seems like it's taking forever to get out of the 230's. One little pound at a time. So, my next goal is to at least bring it down to 235 or break into the lower 30's.
This last week I did not swim once! I did yoga everyday but yoga doesn't burn the calories like swimming.
Someone I know when I asked him, "if he had any suggestions on how to lose weight? Told me, just drink ice cold water and chew your food one hundred times."
Well at the time I didn't think much of that advice.
I did read that eaters anonymous recommends sitting with your meal and taking 20 min to eat whats in front of you.
Here's a link that I'm thinking of joining.

I have some pretty bad habits when it comes to how I eat. I am often found nibbling as I walk through the kitchen. I eat in front of the TV, Kindle, Computer, and even in my car.
All of which need to be changed.
Although, I am now very good at keeping my diary, measuring my foods and exercises, I could do better at actually enjoying my food.
I have one week before I go on vacation. I would like to seriously put into practise some of these suggestions.
It's a long journey and believe me there are times when I just want to break off from all this. But, it is the pain in my knees and back that remind me each day that I have to lose this weight. I made a promise that I would not look to pills or surgery until I have honestly lost this weight.
I am doing this with, fresh foods, no diet program food, hard exercise and determination.
My 30 day program is still in place and I believe this is a good time to put 3 of these suggestion on the board.
