I spend much of my day looking at art, visiting online museums, and working on my own artwork.

I have often thought that art should bring a response from the viewer. Yes, sometimes I fall to painting a still life only because it brings me the pleasure of painting and doing something productive. After all a pear is only a pear and you can't really respond too emotionally to that.

Or can you? It is said to heal a broken heart, eat a pear.

Art O Mat artist. 

Let me share this with you.

I suggest you go to Art o Mat website.

Look around and see what they are all about. 

Down load their application.

You will have to submit your work.

Once you are approved go over all the guidelines.

I bought their blocks because for me its just easier.

 You will receive a box full and 50 2" x 3" blocks

 Next, paint, paint, paint.......

fill the box with your artfully painted blocks and mail it back to them.

Come along, I think this is an awesome idea.

It's official!!!

I'm an artist for 

Art o Mat

Here are my two prototypes I sent in with my submission. 

Art O Mat has excepted my submission for their 

Art O Mat vending machines.

My series 

"Let's have a little fun" 

will now be bought in art machines across the country. 

My artwork will be on wooden blocks 2" x 3" . 

I'm very excited about this and can't wait to get started. 

I hope you will be able to find a art machine near you or when you travel. 

I saw my first Art O Mat in Las Vegas at the Cosmopolitan casino. 

I have been hooked ever since.

March the month for Still Life

I have given myself a little art workshop.

I have decided since I have not done many still life paintings that I would try to complete five new pieces for the month of March.

They will all be acrylic paintings done on canvas paper, size 9" x 12".

The first painting was the stacked books titled Read, Learn, Grow.

Next was the First Tulips of Spring. Which I have donated to Ghost Light Products for their fundraisers.

This weekend I completed the third painting.

Setting your color pallet is so important. I found that many times I didn't have the exact color and found myself mixing colors to get there.

What fun that was!

The important thing about mixing colors is to write down your measurements and colors.

Also, I found it necessary to keep some of the mixed paint on hand to help match the color again.

I keep a color wheel around me when I paint.

The color wheel is  a visual representation of colors arranged according to their chromatic relationship. The basic color wheel consists of 12 colors that can be broken down into three different groups: primary colors, secondary colors, and tertiary colors.

It's a great tool to keep near you if you are going to start mixing colors.

What makes a painting pleasing to the eye is when you have a color scheme that complements itself and one color is used within the whole canvas.

The best way I know how to get back into the studio and start painting is by setting up still lives.
 The last real still life I did was in art class;
where we sat and drew brown paper bags
 for the whole semester!
Since I haven't been painting lately.
  I thought this little still life would get me going again.
I used this simple little compositions to begin with.
The hardest things for me is to get the colors right.
My palette is strong and bold. I had to really bring it down for this painting.
The background and the table are so subtle and similar I really had to force the shadows.
If your just beginning to paint here is a list of brushes that I use.
1. small, medium, and large flat brushes.
2. Medium round brushes.
3. Liner brush.
4. Medium filbert brush.
5. Medium fan brush.
I also use an angled brush that I have grown to love the most.
