The Creative Life
A thru Z

To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.
Joseph Chilton Pearce
Use the power of your imagination everyday.
artwork by Jean Hart
Welcome Back.
Thank you for joining me here for another day of
The creative life.
If you have just found me, subscribe, like, and share.
You wont want to miss any of the activities.

This week I would like you to collect the art materials we will need for many of the projects.
For most of the projects I used colored pens, markers and colored pencils. I also bought watercolor paints and acrylic paints.
You will need a tablet of paper or a medium size journal.
We will use the journal for writing and drawing.
I like to gather all my supplies into a big cloth bag.
This keeps them handy for when I'm traveling or go to the park or coffee shop.
Along with the art supplies you will need a scissors, take, and glue.
I like to create with music on so I bring a cd player too.
I guess you can say that the first assignment is to go to the art supply store.
Walk all around and explore what excites you, what you would like to try that 's new, and what looks fun.

What are the colors that call to you?
What is the size of the journal you will be comfortable working in?
What kind of music will you be listening too?
Now: find a new supply item that you have never used.
What did you find? Tell us in the comments.
I would like to create a global community of creative thinkers here.
Be inspired, be creative, be you,
~jean

A drawing from the Soul

Jean Hart Artwork

Be Kind, Be caring, Be Compassionate
To Yourself

One line drawing

We all have a song in us. Maybe even a poem.
But what I feel inside myself is that I will always have a drawing inside myself.
If you were to take a pencil and listen to inspirational music and just start moving the pencil along.
What do you think you would draw?
I think it is something from your soul.
I believe when you do this little exercise you will be surprised to see that you have created something from deep down in your heart.
The point of this exercise is to not let the pencil come off the page.
You can listen to music and close your eyes and just let your hand be guided or you can purposely make a drawing. The one rule is not to leave the pencil/paper connection.
After you are done with your masterpiece, fill it in if you wish,

Summer, Jean Hart

The ocean in Summer, the ocean in Spring, the ocean in Winter or maybe even in Fall.
It doesn't matter when you go to the ocean.  Just being near the water is good for your health.
Here's a little article that explains why you should go to the ocean.

Wisdom for healing cards
Caroline Myss

Today's card is Practice Visualization,
Today's Lesson: Visualize what you need to heal or create in your life. The image needs to fill all seven chakras, so consciously place that picture into each of them.
With your breath, animate those images, bring them to life, and fill your being.
Your goal:
to practice, and believe in the power of visualization.
I like that well enough. I have done visualization before.
When I'm thinking about my healing I also like to add madras to the position.

How do you make new friends?

Jean Hart
Key To My Heart, acrylic, Jean Hart

Healing Cards.
by Caroline Myss and Peter Occhiogrosso

Today's card:
A Cheerful expression brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.

Here's a task:
Be the bearer of only good news today. In living out this task, note whether you find it difficult to maintain. And if so, discover why within yourself.

The healing value of a kind glance and positive reinforcement was know to the ancient Hebrews over 3,000 years ago. This passage from the Book of Proverbs, (15:30), attributed to King Solomon , is just one example of the practical wisdom buried in the Hebrew Bible, and other ancient scriptures, which bears only a tangential connection to religious dogma. It shouldn't"t seem at all odd that people living in a culture with far fewer distractions and monumentally less information to master could bring their minds and hearts to focus on what really matter, and generate wisdom that is supported by recent medical and scientific research.

Blessing your life with family and friends is what makes a well balanced life. But, what happens when you suddenly find yourself alone? Maybe because you've moved to a new city. Maybe you find that once the kids have left home you no longer have so much to do and the line of commitment to organizations have left you with free time.
My question is simply this.
How do you make new friends?

Perfectionism for an Artist

Jean Hart Artwork
www.zazzle.com/jeanhar1*

Perfectionism:
Just writing the word has made me shiver.
While trying to be perfect with my art these are the things I have perfected.;
increased stress, decreased productivity, irritation with co artists, never ask for input, stress-related physical disorders, high b/p, loss of hair, weight gain, over confidence, and competition of spirit,
and yet I still felt my perfectionism was paying off.
CRASH!!!
Pen and Ink Elephant, Jean Hart Artwork
Creativity and perfection go together like fire and water.
They just don't mix.
I can not remember when I started to think that my art needed to step up.
It may have come when I was showing my artwork in solo shows and just about had a break down.
But, when I look back at it. I believe it was when I first entered my first acrylic painting into the county fair and won the largest and prestigious La Vern Hunt award.
Where do you go from there!!!
I thought," can I keep that kind of standard up?"
Being creative when you are first starting out. Especially, when you are showing your work publicly requires a certain amount of risk, taking leaps of faith.
When you are first learning a new technique, it just can't be perfect. You will make mistakes.
Make a wish, digital, Jean Hart Artwork

Perfection is such a sabotager. It's very nature asks you not to take risks, leaps, or even be curious.
You become stuck in painting the same things because , people liked that, after all you won an award for that tree.
The worst part of perfectionism is that it makes you not want to go into the studio.
I spent many hours just reading books on art, watching videos and organizing my art supplies.
Did I paint during this time. NO WAY!!
Let me just say now that thank goodness this perfectionism state did not last long.
I look at art everyday. Everyday I am amazed at the artwork
I see in museums, magazines, and on the Internet.
It's just a good lesson for any artists to understand that there will always be someone better then you.
Someone who writes better, draws better, paints better.
But they are not you. They do not have your ideas, your life experiences, or your talent.
I believe, while my artwork might not be perfect, it is the best I can do at the time I painted it.
Here is a little story:
I have painted in many styles.
I am always surprised what sells. I have painted pieces that took me months to create and thinking this is the best piece of art I have ever created, and it never sold.
I painted a little abstract and the crowd went crazy!!!
So calm down. If we knew what people wanted, we would paint that.
The trouble is they don't know what they want until they see it.
So, paint. Paint what you like, what you connect to, and it will turn out to be creative and as perfect as a living piece of artwork can be.
Be Inspired,
~jean

Paint with me

Jean Hart Artwork
Welcome to my studio.
I have been getting a lot of questions about how I became an
Art O Mat artist.
Let me share this with you.
I suggest you go to Art o Mat website.
http://www.artomat.org/
Look around and see what they are all about.
Down load their application.
You will have to submit your work.
Once you are approved go over all the guidelines.
I bought their blocks because for me its just easier.

 You will receive a box full and 50 2" x 3" blocks

 Next, paint, paint, paint.......
fill the box with your artfully painted blocks and mail it back to them.

Come along, I think this is an awesome idea.

Sunday's art appreciation document Mark Rothko

Jean Hart Artwork
My movie pick for this Long weekend.
art appreciation.

Mark Rothko.
abstract artist

It's not really a movie, but a art documentary.
I remember when I first saw one of his paintings. It was in an art book. Without knowing the story behind the abstract paintings I thought. How plain. What's the point?
I was an art student and I did not know how to look at art, not really.
Can art change a person, or their perspective of the world?
Can art make you cry?
That's what his art did for many who first saw it.

When I was working on the exhibit
"Elements"
I came across his paintings again.
This time, I felt in the stillness of his work and there was a pull of emotion.
I incorporated a little of his style in my painting .
"A page in History".
Here is a closer look of it.
This was my painting for
AIR
Air painting, My concern is about the Ravens and Crows in my area. They are being poisoned and blamed for the decrease in the Sage Grouse bird population. Of course, there is much more to it then that. You can read more about it here. http://elkodaily.com/news/local/save-sage-grouse-target-ravens-county-hopes-pilot-program-sets/article_e8d4fe28-8df4-11e2-9981-0019bb2963f4.html

I would love to hear about it, if you do.

Tomatoes, Tamatoes

Jean Hart Artwork
Tomatoes, Tamatoes
Still life
by Jean Hart
I'm working on this little still life, and it has taken me many steps to finish the highlights.
I think I'm done. But, then every now and again, something catches my eye that I want to fix.
Right from the start, shame on me. I didn't have the right red color and tried to mix and match a tomatoe color.
I think I should have used a scarlet red. So, for now I have not sealed this painting up.
I don't know if I can fix the color or if I should just say done.
The really cool thing about acrylic paint is that you can go over it with a new color and the background color will not show through.
Artist tip:
The best way to handle gels and pastes is with a palette or painting knife. Use the knife to scoop the mediums out of containers, mix them with paint, or spread them over your paintings. surface.
These mediums let you experiment with the consistency of your paint. They will help give texture to your painting.

~jean

Live with intention

One of my favorite things to do is write.
I love going to the mail box and getting hand written letters.
I can remember when I first moved away from home.
I would look forward to the end of the day by going to check on the mail.
This of course was a time before emails and texting.
When I started to paint and learned how to use my computer I had a template to make greeting cards from my artwork. This is how I first started my art business.
Selling cards of my artwork at art fairs.
Later, I learned how to set up an online store to sell not only cards but all kinds of merchandise using my images.
Since, I love paper, my goal was to set up a stationary store.
But, these days with e-mails, texting, and unlimited phone use, hardly anyone writes letters.
I think we have lost a bit of the intimacy that comes from communicating through the written word.
For that reason, I have joined a pen pal group that writes encouraging letters to strangers who just need to hold on to positive words of inspiration.
I do this once a week.
I send out handwritten notes because I love to share quotes, poems, or haiku's I have written that may inspire someone. Plus, I love to have the person return my thoughts with their own words of encouragement.
It makes me feel like I have really connected with someone from far away.
We share our lives, cultures, recipes, and it somehow makes my life a little lighter.
Paper is a big industry, and you can find fun writing paper at your local craft store or you can find fun cards at grocery stores.
You can check out my greeting cards and postage stamps at my
Jean Hart Artwork store
www.zazzle.com/jeanhar1*

I also sell envelope seals.
6/$3.00
but these you have to order directly from me.
