The Tomato Bowl

Jean Hart Artwork

Drawing What You See
Drawing is an interesting practice.
We all see things differently.
If I were to put a bowl of tomatoes on a table and ask ten people to drawing what they saw.
The bowl, the tomatoes, the table would all be different.
WHY is that.
It's because we all have a stylized ideas of what every object we see looks like.
We are drawing from our minds and not from our eyes.
I think that's FANTASTIC!!
That's would make your work original.
Artist Tip!
"Throughout the drawing and painting process, hold up your work in front of a mirror. This can help you see and correct inaccuracies in the proportion. "The Daily Book of ART

Receive, the vision board

Receive
Soul Song, sold
Lately I have been working on my vision broad.
I found an app on my phone that lets me pick symbols and affirmations and lets me move these around freely and a colored background.
Well, the one thing I know for sure about vision boards is that you must be clear.
If your vision is full of maybe's or I wish, I don't know, or even I don't care! Then be prepared for fuzzy unclear ops I didn't mean that gifts.
To receive a gift of love or help you must be grateful.
But, gratitude is for another blog another time.
Today, just start thinking about the things you would like and I like to put down my part in helping this happen and the rest is up the the Universe.
Your not suppose to ask about the how's.
But just make your list, prayer over it and be grateful.
Have fun with this too.
My board, well it's pretty exciting since I understand that there are no limits to asking.

Road Trip...

Road Trip.....
It's that time of year for planes, cars, and cruise ships

Souls in Flight, acrylic, by Jean Hart
I love Road trips...You just can't beat the freedom of being in your own car and driving down the road with the radio blasting.
Some of my favorite trips have been when we just took off without reservations.
I loved the spontaneity of it, but I also love a well planned itinerary.
I've been lost for hours, stuck in a town over night because of car trouble,
and have spontaneously gone off course.
I love it all!!  And of course every time it is an adventure!
But, if you are the kind of person who must know where you are at all times.
Follow a map and not get swayed from it.
Here is a site that will take you to all 48 states, only stops at national monuments, landmarks, historic sites. And best of all you can do it from the comfort of your own car.

March the month for Still Life

Jean Hart Artwork

March 2015
I have given myself a little art workshop.
I have decided since I have not done many still life paintings that I would try to complete five new pieces for the month of March.
They will all be acrylic paintings done on canvas paper, size 9" x 12".
The first painting was the stacked books titled Read, Learn, Grow.
Next was the First Tulips of Spring. Which I have donated to Ghost Light Products for their fundraisers.
This weekend I completed the third painting.
Bowl of Fruit.

Setting your color pallet is so important. I found that many times I didn't have the exact color and found myself mixing colors to get there.
What fun that was!
The important thing about mixing colors is to write down your measurements and colors.
Also, I found it necessary to keep some of the mixed paint on hand to help match the color again.
I keep a color wheel around me when I paint.
The color wheel is  a visual representation of colors arranged according to their chromatic relationship. The basic color wheel consists of 12 colors that can be broken down into three different groups: primary colors, secondary colors, and tertiary colors.
It's a great tool to keep near you if you are going to start mixing colors.
What makes a painting pleasing to the eye is when you have a color scheme that complements itself and one color is used within the whole canvas.
What paintings or projects are you working on for March?

Vision Boards, their your future

My digital vision board, created by Jean Hart

Vision Boards....
What is a vision board?
It is a way for you to create the life you want by collecting images
and making a collage of the things you want.

It is your future.

Above is my digital vision board.
I layered the background with a painting of California poppies I did in color pencil.
Then started to add words that inspire me.
In the past I have made vision boards that are much larger and much more elaborate.
I start with a large piece of poster board.
Next, I meditate on what I see my future to be.
I ask these questions.
What kind of life do I want to create for myself?
Where do I see myself in a month, six months, a year? Or longer.
1. start with a large poster board.
2. I like to divide the board into compartments;
 Home, health, knowledge, finances, travel.
Come up with your own ideas.
Remember, this is your future life, not your life now.
3. I start looking through magazines for I can cut out and glue onto the board.
Be specific. If you want a new car, cut out a picture of the exact car you want. Not just any car.
4. If you can't find photos of what you want, then draw it. Or write it on the board.
5. I love words so I always find quotes that inspire me.
6. Use paints, pens, stickers, photos, glitter, ribbons.
Whatever you need to dress this board up so it reflects your image of the future.
EXPRESS YOURSELF..
7. Next, I like to make a plan. I turn the board over, I draw two lines straight down the board from top to bottom. I pick three things from the front of the  board I want.
I number  1-3 in each column, and list  three small steps to how this will happen.
I also give a date that each step will be completed.
Be realistic about this. Not everything happens in a day, week or even a month.
8. Now find a place where you will look at this board everyday
Have fun with this.

~jean

Everything About Paris

Everything About Paris
Paris smarts game

Question- Culture

True or False

It is the custom in Paris to plant a "double kiss" when meeting someone new.

False

Although the double kiss a peck on alternate cheeks, is common in Paris, there is no single norm. The "triple kiss" and the "four kiss" are popular, too. The standard greeting between strangers and in business settings is ofter a handshake.

Well, I got that wrong. But then again it's nice to know I don't have to go around kissing everyone I meet. It's good to know these customs before traveling.
Here's a website that will help you understand how to get along in Paris.
We don't want to be misunderstood.
He love me, he loves me not, acrylic, Jean Hart

Start with a handshake,
"If a stranger of the opposite sex smiles at you, it's best to do as the French do and return only a blank look before turning away. If you smile back, you might find yourself in a Pepé Le Pew–type situation."

2014 What a YEAR

2014 Transformation

Winter, the last season for 2014. A Complete year of transformation.
Happy, Healthy, Strong and Alive.

It's been a great year.
I've met some goals and didn't finish others.
But, just as life continues,
new goals are being made for 2015.
One of the many tools I have used this year has been my healing cards. It is always nice to know that no matter what card I pull they seem to be the card I need.

Healing card for today:
by Caroline Myss
"A cheerful expression brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones."
That sounds great not only for today but for each day.
Believe me my bones could use some good news. This cold weather has settled right in.
It's 13 degrees today....cold, cold, freezing.
I have both the pallet stove going and the furnace on. It's gonna be a long winter.
I have taken this Christmas break off from just about everything and now I'm ready to get back to exercising and eating right.
My new schedule has been a little tough to get my yoga in.
I have moved my dinning room table as far into the wall as possible, taken out the extra leafs and now I have plenty of room to do yoga in my dinning room with YouTube on my computer.
It works well.
Isn't it funny how you live a certain way and then bam!...a new idea just shows up.

Here's a task for today:
Be the bearer of only good news today. In living out this task, note whether you find it difficult to maintain. And if so, discover why within yourself.
In January 2014, I begin a transformation. I could hardly move my body. I started yoga, walking and swimming. I started eating healthier and made regular hours for my studio.
By spring,  I had oped Master Piece Art Gallery with my daughter, I had signed up for a yoga retreat, Wonderlust . I did my first mile walk,(which I barely finished), started to lose some wight. Oh and cut all my hair off to a short little hair cut.
Summertime, I was well into walking 5K's every weekend and my time was improving, I had lost 15lbs and my back and knees where getting stronger. Sarah and I started a triathlon, swimming, walking, yoga. No bike it's not good for my lower back.
The Fall was amazing, I won a medal for walking a 5K, I had lost 20lbs, and now was volunteering everyday for a cause greater then myself.
The end of 2014. Looking back through my photo album I am amazed at the adventures I had this year. The places I went, the people I meet, and the love I have for life. While not all of my goals were meet, most of them were accomplished. Is the transformation over? NO, I have a lot more work to do with getting my back and knees where they need to be. My weight is still 80 lbs where my goals is, and my artwork is going in a totally different direction then every before.
2015 will be just as busy with 5K's but this year there will also be hiking trails. Always looking for  habits for better living and health. There will be some new fashion designs coming this year.
Just getting back into life in this last year has been tremendous....So while my little butterfly is still in her cocoon, I think she is getting stronger and maybe this is the year she will break open the cocoon.
Thank you all for coming along on this journey with me. I have truly enjoyed all the emails, and p/m of encouragement. We have had some interesting conversations.

Good Morning,
We got a little snow for Christmas and the family came for Christmas Dinner.

Merry Christmas from the Hart Family
We have so much to be Grateful for.
Here we are right where we should be.
2014 was such a good year that I'm a little sorry to see it go. But, of course
you can not stop time and now I am looking forward to 2015.
What are my plans for 2015?
For one thing...doing more artwork.
I have 3 projects I'm working on, I hope to be able to talk about them soon.
My 5K's will still be going. In fact, my very first one will be in St George for my birthday in Jan.
For Christmas I got the most wonderful walking sticks
along with  a book about all the hiking trails in Elko County.
Soooo you know hiking reports will soon appear.
My New Years list goes something like this.
less TV and more reading
less clutter more space
less junk food and more real foods
less worries and more smiles
and more deep breathing.
of course theirs more ......
I would like to see world peace and harmony

Healing and Health

Healing and Health
my healing journey

Each year it seems since about 10 years ago when I hurt my back I have been on this journey. It was a back injury and I thought that was all it was. Little did I know that everything, is connected and if one thing goes wrong soon other things follow.
My tests results were not what I was hoping for and once again I'm back to monitoring, recording and reporting results.
The aneurysm, a blood vessels that popped in my eye, was not serious enough to require any medical attention, but it sure got my attention.
I'm not sure how it is that I'm feeling better then every, busier then I have been in years, and exercising more then I have in the last three years, that my test results show no improvement.
So, I have closed my eyes and pick a healing card. Setting my intentions for the new year to come.
Here is my card, for Caroline Myss and Peter Occhiogrosso,
"To be sure of the road, close your eyes and walk in the dark.
Spiritually closing your eyes permits Heaven to enact the most wonderful guidance in your life. Say the prayer, "open a new road to me today," and expect the unexpected.
When it appears, accept the gift."
Yes, I am looking for a new road. What I am doing has been the same for too long. I hope that 2015 bring many changes.
I have gotten a map of the USA, for a minute I thought about just closing my eyes and through a dart at it and saying,,,,There it is, Are next adventure for this year.....but, I don't have enough faith that I wouldn't end up in some little deserted ghost town.
I know change starts with one small step, and it happens everyday. So, really my goal is to get a new daily planner and start looking at each month, week by week.
Last year I did 5k's, this year I want to do trails.
Many blessing for the New Year to Come.

Interview with an Artist, Jean Hart

Interveiw With An Artist

Jean Hart
Jean Hart Artist
Within life lies a chance to adapt..
What kind of artist are you?
With a New Year I always look to the past to see how I did last year and what I can do better this year.
Many things have change in my life in the last 15years. I have had to adapt over and over again.
I am reminded of a quote I read from Don Bania, Jr.
"life is a precious gift..within every tragedy lies an opportunity".
It is so true, if I had not hurt my back and was forced to quit a job I loved, I would never have become an artist.
Over the years my artwork has taken on different styles, strokes, mediums and expressions.
I have no doubt that as I grow as an artist my artwork will expand and grow too.
When I first started to paint,  I wanted to do portraits. I love people and used my children as models.
I thought then that I would be come a portrait artist.

As my interest in art grew I moved on the landscapes and birds..

After so many years of painting I'm still trying to decide what kind of artist I am.
My mediums change, my prospectives have changed and my responsibility to art has changed.
Being a self taught artist means that I am constantly reading new books on art technique and art history.
What will I be doing this year, 2014?
Private Painting Parties, with my daughter Sarah.

I will be adapting to a life of working full time as an artist. Up to now I have only seen myself as someone who likes art, plays around with paint, and has been pretty lucky to have a following of people like my art.
I have been given this chance to paint, once again because of recovery, and, I now must adapt again.
So to all the new friends I've made and people watching me, I say.
Sometimes change is a good thing.
I was reading Don's story, and at first you think how sad a young boy has a devastating motorcycle accident that leaves him paralyzed from the shoulders down. He goes into deep depression, and than comes out of it saying."My brokenness made me aware of my desperate need for God."
He starts drawing, with using only his mouth to hold the pencil. Teaches himself to draw, he spends over 100 hours on one painting.
Well, I say, bravo, the human spirit will pull you through.
Accept the changes in your life, after you have fight against them and let your spirit shine.

~Jean

The Making of an Artist

The Making of an Artist

Interview with Artist
Jean Hart
I love checking in with my email. Here is a question I am often asked.

How do you define yourself as an Artist?

First I would say, be kind to yourself. You well change as an artist as often as you learn something new.
Go Slow....Take on only what you feel comfortable with.
Remember too that each of us are at a different level of skills so stop comparing yourself to others.
I am self taught with just a few art classes. My first exhibit into the public arena was the County Fair in my home town. Judged and out there for all to see. Remove your ego, because not everyone will like your artwork or understand it. I registered as a armature but after two years and because I sold a few paintings they defined me as a professional!!!!
I have learned in the last ten years that there is really no one way to become a professional.
Every artist finds their own way.
It's really up to you how you want to be seen as an artist.
Hobbyist, armature, professional.
Just decide if becoming an artist will add the beauty, excitement, and quality to the life you image being an artist will do. In reality, its a lot of hard work. Once the decision is made,
 Make the Commitment.
Take a few classes, workshop, read art books and watch movies. Don't be afraid to let people see your work. Also, don't be afraid to have it critiqued or judged.
(This is where the real growth happens).
Establish Goals, National Fame does not come to us overnight, nor should it.
Be realistic, maybe say "This is the year I enter one contest. One exhibit. Or try to join in and be accepted to the American Society Show.
Goals are only there to help you stay focused and under no account do they measure you as an artist. Only you can do that.
Be Inspired,
~Jean

The Dot

OK well I don't usually do this!!!!! But here we go. I have this idea and it goes like this. If I make a Haiku the painting will follow.
So I came up with a Haiku and Just started painting. This painting is a work in progress and has only had one session I'm still working on it, but I think that's the fun of doing artwork. It's interesting to watch artwork grow.
check it out, artwork in progress

My W words list

Katie's Garden, acrylic, 16x24, Jean Hart Artwork
My W Words.
Whenever I'm feeling a little tired, or unable to focus, I know I can count on my "W" words to pull me back on track.
What are "w" words?
They are the words I have find that get me motivated, inspired, and moving again.
This week, while trying to eat healthy, I came across a food choice that looked interesting.
 Quinoa!!
I found a great recipe in the vegetarian book and made a Quinoa salad.
It was great!!!, It was healthy, its was vegetarian.....unfortunately for me,  quinoa is a small round pasta. A little bead of a pasta. By the next day my intestines were inflamed.
My diverticulitis had kicked in.
Three days later, I'm up walking and feeling better.
But, my motivation is down. My energy is weak, and my concentration lacking.
Long ago I had created a "W" list. These are the words that get me moving.
I'm sure you can do this with any letter, but W works best for me.
Take a piece of paper and start writing down all the words you can think of that start with W.
When you are done, look at your list. Pick 3 words and start doing them.
Before long you will be happily moving around and feeling better.
Here is my list:
Wake, water, walk, write, work, wonder, wander, weave, whine, wine, weep, whistle, whisper, wiggle around,.... I'm sure there is more but once I start doing these I'm well on my way to being back on track with my day.

Another Trip Around The Sun

Another Trip Around The Sun
It's my Birthday!!
It happens every year, so far.
When I was little we made signs with our age and Dad would take a pictures of us holding our signs.
We loved it!!
2014 has started and I'm doing great.
My scans and x-rays on my back showed that I was making good progress and my L4 has even moved back into alignment, just ever so slightly. But huge!!! I was told that NEVER happens.
So I'm looking forward to a happy, healthy, strong, and ALIVE 2014.
MAKE A WISH!!!
BELIEVE ME I MADE A WISH THAT HAS A FEW COMMAS IN IT.
I use to sign all my letters with
"Make a Wish."
I wish on candles, turkey breast bones, lucky pennies, going through tunnels and over bridges.
I never once think that they wont come true.

Here's the way I look at wishes, I make a wish, the Universe hears it, the order is in and then I wait for the Universe to move mountains to make it happen.
Be careful what you wish for, because it might come true.
Are you prepared to have all your wishes come true?
