Everything About New York

Everything About New York
by smarts

Question:
Which of these is a free NYC transportation?
1. water taxi
2. Staten Island ferry
3. Times Square shuttle
4. Roosevelt Island cable car

Answer
2. Staten Island Ferry

The Staten Island Ferry carries 60,000 people per weekday between St. George on Staten Island and Whitehall Street in lower Manhattan, and it won't cost you a dime, since the .50 cent fare was eliminated in 1997. It costs $2.00 to ride the Times Square shuttle, just like it does the subway, and two bucks will also get you the great view from the Roosevelt Island tramway (board at 59th Street and Second Avenue.) One way on a water taxi can lighten your wallet by 3-7 bucks.

Isn't it nice to know that there are still free things in the world when it seems like everything has a price.
So Whats on Staten Island that they will be happy to take you there for free?

Day 4 core beliefs

Soul Song, acrylic, 36" x 34 by Jean Hart , sold

Soul Coaching by Denise Linn
For Day 3 we cleaned the garage.....I'm no longing storing broken stuff, things that are not used  or that are not mine.
Day 4
Air
Where are you now in your life?
Affirmation for the day
"I love and accept who I am and who I am is enough."

Level 3
Observing YOUR core beliefs

"A core belief is a notion that you have held so long and repeated so often that it has become entrenched into your subconscious mind."
I have been studying core beliefs with a Life Coach I'm working with and to start,
I have to say this is going to take much longer than a day!!
From awhile back I have always said that everything is in the words you speak.
You must learn to change the words you say to yourself and the words you use out loud.
If you insist on being negative well expect the negative to happen.
Start with something like this,
I am exactly where I need to be.
All of my needs, wants and desires are being met.
I always have choices.
Think you your own as negative thoughts come into your mind, turn then around.
For me, I have taken this a little farther.
I have found this to be a good place to start.

work with it, sit with it, and just observe it.

Blue Ribbon Cookie

Peanut Butter Cookies

My Chinese cookie said I was stuck in a Chinese bakery!!

I'm thinking that there are worst places to be then in a bakery.
My Blood Sugar number for today was 106. Not too bad. But the fair is coming up  and baking is something I love to do.
I've started to bake around the house finding the blue ribbon cookie.
I found this recipe on diabeticlivingonline. I think this will satisfy both my need to bake and
not get my to far off track.

This is Jax's story

This is Jax's Story

Jax has left the Tower

Jax exploring the snow
I'm letting go. I saw Tangled the 3D movie, Awesome, but it got me to thinking that its time to let the kittens go.  Jax has left the "Tower". I have had this little kitten since it was born in the Spring. I thought that maybe he should be an inside cat, but truly he needs to go out and explore the world. It is the right thing to do and I pray that I don't loose him. He is part of the world so I have let him go free to have adventures.
Here is how I came to have kitten:
I wanted a cat for my studio and my husband said "no, we have two cats." So I brought each one into the studio and asked them if they would like to stay here and be my "studio cat." Each one looked around and promptly left for the outside world. So than I said I want a "kitten" and will get one in spring when kittens are born. Again, Kerry said "no!" Well not more than two days later a small beautiful gray and white cat shows up in my garage, and she's pregnant!!! I brought her into my studio, two days later she had five kittens so not only do I have a studio cat but studio Kittens. Isn't the Universe wonderful????
The mommy cat we named Gabby, and we kept two of her kitten. Jax and Sassy. Slowly they are learning about the outside world.

Sassy and Jax dreaming of adventures

You can use all three cards to make a painting or just do one. Mix and match...it's up to you.

Circle of Growth~ Do a painting using only Cadmium Orange and a tube black.

Windows of Opportunity~ Pick subject from the Doors of Awareness deck. (Which I have here).
Paint some sky, mountains and land, and paint your chosen subject somewhere in the painting. Make it as important or unimportant  as you choose.

Doors of awareness~ Paint an edifice: a barn, a shack or a house with a lot of character or any facet of the building that intrigues you.

Happy creating.

Inspired Heart Practice

Jean Hart Artwork
Inspired Heart
new wine glasses

Today's Inspired Heart practice is about wine glasses, wine and getting it right .

Glasses in my home come and go.
I've been married for over 35 years, with two children and countless animals.
Having a matching glass would be a treat.
I have decided that it's time to go back to the basics of setting up a home.
After all I am an  adult now with children gone from my home.
I should have matching glassware.
I consulted Emily Post on this matter and below  is her list for glassware every home should have.
6 tumblers
6 juice glasses
8 or 12 old-fashioned or one the rocks glasses
8 or 12 wineglasses
8 or 12 iced tea or highball glasses

and you should also keep on the ready for guests,
goblets
wineglasses
liqueur glasses
champagne glasses

Now keeping in mind I truly do not have the space for the variety she has listed.
I'm going to start with wine glasses.
In my cabinets are a random amount of wine glasses. Some are souvenirs of places I've visited
and others have holiday designs on them.
Well, OUT WITH THE OLD!!!
I just bought a small box of 4 red and white wine glasses.
Simple, clean, study wine glasses, with short stems. No designs,
NO PAINTED STATEMENTS.
This goes along with all the de-cluttering and clearing out I'm doing.
Interesting enough just this morning I find an article about California Wines.
Unfortunately for me one of my favorite wines is on this list .

Lawsuit Claims California Wines Contain Dangerous Arsenic Levels

Wineries deny allegations, insist their products are safe and plaintiffs' research is flawed

How do you make new friends?

Jean Hart
Key To My Heart, acrylic, Jean Hart

Healing Cards.
by Caroline Myss and Peter Occhiogrosso

Today's card:
A Cheerful expression brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.

Here's a task:
Be the bearer of only good news today. In living out this task, note whether you find it difficult to maintain. And if so, discover why within yourself.

The healing value of a kind glance and positive reinforcement was know to the ancient Hebrews over 3,000 years ago. This passage from the Book of Proverbs, (15:30), attributed to King Solomon , is just one example of the practical wisdom buried in the Hebrew Bible, and other ancient scriptures, which bears only a tangential connection to religious dogma. It shouldn't"t seem at all odd that people living in a culture with far fewer distractions and monumentally less information to master could bring their minds and hearts to focus on what really matter, and generate wisdom that is supported by recent medical and scientific research.

Blessing your life with family and friends is what makes a well balanced life. But, what happens when you suddenly find yourself alone? Maybe because you've moved to a new city. Maybe you find that once the kids have left home you no longer have so much to do and the line of commitment to organizations have left you with free time.
My question is simply this.
How do you make new friends?

Love Inspires

Love Inspires

Love Inspires
Acrylic
11" x 14"

Living a life of friendliness and love will help to inspire you to live a life of compassion, hope and joy.
Life is so much more meaningful when we share it with someone else. Often we sit and wait for what will come ahead only to finally get it!! Your future lies deep within yourself. It's way down deep where you keep your dreams. The true life is what happens when you decide its time to act upon those dreams and know, really understand that everything is up to you to make the future happen. And just like Abraham Lincoln said, "The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time." So just take it one step at a time.

It's just a rumor I heard

It's just a rumor I heard

Yesterday, today and tomorrow
Life is curved, acrylic, 4' x 4'
Jean Hart Artwork
www.zazzle.com/jeanhar1
Yesterday is only a dream, tucked away in the recess's of your mind. Tomorrow only a vision, a hope and dream. The question for today is "What will you do today, while you live and breathe and are alive to make your tomorrows happier, wiser and stronger?

Will you sit and wait for the world, your world to change? Or will you have the courage to take a small step to change yourself for your world or the larger world?

The answer of course is yours alone. But, it reminds me of a quote I remember, "If you always do the same things you have always done, then  you will always get the same answer you have always gotten". It's something like that, and I'm sorry I don't remember who said that or if I'm quoting it correctly, but still it is something that has always stayed with me.
Today, really is the best life you have....it's the present life....the one that you are reaping the benefits of yesterdays decisions and planning for  the future. All things rely I what you do NOW, TODAY.
Heart's Desires, acrylic 4' x 4' Jean Hart Artwork
Heart's desires, they come from within, from without. Idea's are acted upon and plans are made.
Opportunities!!! Do they really only come knocking on your door once?
I THINK NOT!!!!
I think that's just a rumor.....for the people who don't meet their dreams half way...

Summer transformation

Wisdom for healing cards.
by Caroline Myss

Today's card
Chose to Empower Yourself

Today's Lesson:
This is a day to practice the power of choice. Choose the quality of mood you want, this is, whether you'll adopt a positive or negative attitude. the choice is up to you !

Yes, choice is always up to you. I sometimes think we need help to understand our choices.
When I took my physical I was asked if I would like to see a Health and Wellness coach.
I said yes, mistakenly thinking she was a nutritionist who was going to help me with my weight.
No, she said. I will help you with your choices to have a satisfying life.
Well, it's been interesting and I will continue to go .

Your Goal:
to realize that you do have the ability to enhance your life each day!

Here are a few things that I have decided to do to enhance my life.
1. I will always have flowers around me.
2. I will always wear perfume, and I do have a signature scent now.
3. I will always wear lipstick, even if I'm alone at home.
4. I will always look to make my home more comfortable, clean and organized.
5. I will always travel with our 5k walks.
6. I will always cook with real foods, no more processed foods.
Kitchen is closed from 1-5pm each day.
7. I will always make time to read
8. I will get off the computer and walk each day
9. I will donate to important causes I support
10. I will keep looking for creative ways to live.
I'm sure there's more but I was given 3 things to work on this month and I had to pick something.

It is said to heal a broken heart, eat a pear.

Jean Hart Artwork

GETTING EVERYONE ON THE SAME PAGE WHEN IT COMES TO ART....
"Art... is a means of union among men, joining them together in the same feelings, and indispensable for the life and progress toward well-being of individuals and humanity."

Leo Tolstoy
I spend much of my day looking at art, visiting online museums, and working on my own artwork.
I have often thought that art should bring a response from the viewer. Yes, sometimes I fall to painting a still life only because it brings me the pleasure of painting and doing something productive. After all a pear is only a pear and you can't really respond too emotionally to that.
Or can you? It is said to heal a broken heart, eat a pear.

French Kiss life, ooh la la

It's time to
French Kiss Life again.
I belong to the Frenchkisslifeclub.
Each week we are given a practice.
It's just a starting point and I often find that I have read something or seen something in my day that will inspire my heart to continue this practice on my own.
Today is just that day.
I have been clearing out my closets and getting my clothes organized.
Like many people who shop for clothes I have lots of hangers that are plastic, slippery, and odd.
Just yesterday, I went out and bought myself what I call luxury hangers.
They are soft, sturdy, and all match.
I even got my signature color, purple.
Next, luxurious thing I did was to invest in lingerie .
For years I have been wearing old Tshirst and flannel jammies .....
Don't get me wrong, I've been doing it for years.
But, I felt it's time to step it up a bit.
I love romance novels and movies.
Have you ever read about the beautiful lingerie the heroine wears.
It go something like this.
" She gracefully entered the room wearing her silky gorgeous gown with stretch lace bodice  and spaghetti straps that crisscross over her slightly tanned back........(fill in the rest yourself)..
But you get the point.
So I'm off to be the star of my own book and buy a few silky romantic lingerie peignoir sets and hang them on my new soft hangers.
ooh  la la
this is how I'm french kissing my life

Blue Moon Stepping Stones

Blue Moon Stepping Stones

This is a painting I did in 2013.
I was looking for the Blue Moon Series I had done.
Funny, it is still so true.
I'm still working as hard as I can to find strength in some areas of my life.
While, many things are better since I have found support where I needed help.
A life that grows will always change.
Stepping Stones, color pencel, Jean Hart

I'm working on a series of small 5" x 7" drawing for the "Blue Moon" series.
It's for a mail Art program I'm registered in.
Blue Moon Stepping Stones,
Reminds me of the strength it takes to go it alone. One step at a time. Solo. No one else can take these steps for you. When you are ready, and sometimes even before you think you can. You must try. Whatever it is. Only you can make the decisions for you to move forward. Because as you can see standing still will soon have you in deep water.
Solo, somethings you must do alone.

Interview With an Artist

What kind of music inspires you?

    Making of an Artist
with
Jean Hart
Good Morning,
you caught me early. Usually I'm checking my e-mails with my first cup of coffee.
The beauty of work from home, you can start when your ready.
I'm listening to my new CD from Joseph Carrillo. He is a composer from Elko, who now lives in Hollywood producing music. He composed original music for our 4 Women Art Exhibit.
"The Elements".
Grab a cup of coffee and listen to his music while we talk.
https://soundcloud.com/search?q=josephcarrillocomposer/sets/5ivelements-https://soundcloud.com/search?q=josephcarrillocomposer/sets/5ivelements-

I am often asked if I listen to music while I paint?
Yes, I do.
I love all kinds of music and if it's a song I really connect with,
I will try to paint a picture that match's the song.
I have music on my TV so sometimes I put on New Age music.
If I'm writing, stories, poems, blogs, I will have music without words playing.
What kind of music inspires you?
Loud, jazz.
If I need inspiration then let it ripe, loudly and with lots of  drums. I like to hear a solid beat.
I just uploaded an app for playing piano. So, lately I have been listening to my own music.
Do you play the piano?
When I was younger I played the cello. I will often have cello music on when I'm alone.
No, I don't know how to play the piano, but with this new app it makes me sound like I do.
I also have a set of electric drums I like to pound on.
Time fly's when your being creative, playing music is just like painting.
Do I have a certain musician I like?
Oh gosh, there are so many great musicians I like.
For along time I was hooked on Toby Keith.
Then there is Melody Gardot.
Now that I have Pandora, I listen to Pink and India Arie.

~Jean
