As The Crow Fly's

Air painting,
As the show time gets closer and summer activities get busier, I'm getting just a littler nervous about finishing my paintings on time.
I started this Air painting last night and I'm very pleased with the direction it's going in.
My concern is about the Ravens and Crows in my area. They are being poisoned and blamed for the decrease in the Sage Grouse bird population. Of course, there is much more to it then that.
You can read more about it here.

a waning moon

Blue Moon,

Lately, or maybe just because it's summer, I feel as though I am waning. Waning with the last of the supermoon. Moving away from the hustle and business I live my life in. I'm pulling back on many activities, but for some reason I'm still busy. I'm sure it's just a cycle, the ebb and flow of energy. Swimming has left me both feeling stronger and exhausted at the same time. In the afternoon I find myself closing the drapes and watching movies.......until it's time to play backgammon.......resting is what I want to do. I imagine this is normal for creative people. Just a little time out. Staying open to the ideas that come at a time of waning.
Anyone else feeling this way?

Summertime planning

Summer
Narcissus, acrylic, jean hart

In the first days of summer all I want to do is sit in the sun and read.
Of course that only lasts for about an hour and then my mind starts planning!!!
With my first summer vacation behind me I'm already thinking about the next trip.
"You are young at any age if you're planning for tomorrow." Anonymous,
( he is very wise!!)
I am someone who always has plans.
My son gave me a little tip,
"Do something today that will make you happy tomorrow."
I think that's good advice. Planning makes me happy, it gives me something to look forward to and it keeps me interested in life.
5 strategies for moving forward with a plan.
Make a commitment. What ever it is, commit to it.
Start small. Pick just one or two things to do.
Stick with it. It's so easy to give up.
Reassess. Ask yourself if this is really what you want to do,or need to do.
Grow. Often one idea becomes another and another and soon your off doing amazing things!!

Summer plan????
Swim everyday,
Be outside everyday, walking or sitting.
Read everyday, I'm reading little french books.
Paint everyday, I bought a 5' 7' pad of canvas to paint on.
Cook good food everyday, fresh for the season.
and watch movies, listen to music, and laugh everyday.
Travel somewhere you've never been. This July Seattle.
Change is just small steps everyday.
Always have a plan, it's a must.

June's Aspects

JUNE'S MOON
This little piece will go into my Blue Moon mail art project.
I love June, it's where the first day of summer is....and I love summer.
The month of June received its name from the Goddess Juno, protector of women and marriage. This is where the custom of June brides originates. This month has many flower festivals, rose parades, weddings, and dances.
Midsummer Night is a major international holiday for lovers, for divining for future, for building bonfires, and for jumping them for good luck.
Full moon aspect: Mead moon, strong sun moon
Universal event: The sun is moving away from the earth, but the constant moon prevails. The summer is peaking out, all ripens and gets ready for the harvest.
Communal event: Midsummer Night and Day. This is usually a three-day festival featuring dancing in the woods, with religious ecstasy. This is a time to gather all the tribes together, travel home to the old homestead, visit family and kin. All restrictions of chastity were lifted at the time; marriage proposals and weddings are lucky now.
Message: To bond, to lead, to rule
Activity: Endurance and triumphant fulfillment
Emotional mode; Bonding, loyalty
Healing properties: To make strong, to cleanse, prevention and protection.
Color: Purple, indigo
Tree: Oak and mistletoe, symbols of the male principle. This is the time for ritually cutting mistletoe, and catching it in a white cloth so that it never touches the ground.
Mistletoe is used in love spells, kissing under it.
Flower: Rose
Animal: Wren
Gem: Pearl, moonstone, alexandrite

In my studies of Greek Mythology I came across this story of Narcissus. I felt it was the perfect subject for a water painting. Although, I have made Narcissus and woman, I feel that this emotional state can just as easily be a woman's issue.
Narcissus -- in Greek mythology, the son of the river god Cephissus and the nymph Leiriope; he was distinguished for his beauty. His mother was told that he would have a long life, provided he never looked upon his own features. His rejection, however, of the love of the nymph Echo or of his lover AmeiniasThe story may have derived from the ancient Greek superstition that it was unlucky or even fatal to see one's own reflection. In psychiatry and especially psychoanalysis, the term narcissism denotes an excessive degree of self-esteem or self-involvement, a condition that is usually a form of emotional immaturity.
