 Week Fourteen

What ever you do, Be Marvelous!!

Life is what you celebrate, All of it. ~Joanne Harris 

This week is the celebration of the letter M. oh the words and fun that came to me with this letter. I believe so far I live in the activities of M. 

When I was an exhibiting artist I had a solo fine art exhibit at the
 Northeastern Nevada Museum in Elko, Nv 
It's show title was "Kaleidoscope"

I had been painting mandala's ever since I read a biography of Carl Jung. 
He said he did a small mandala everyday in his office before he started work each day. 
I started with easy coloring books, and then later went on to make my own designs.
In world history all different cultures,  Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Celtic, and, Native American have been making mandalas for well over 5,000 years. 
One of the ways to use a mandala is to ask a question while you are creating your mandala, by the time you are finished hopefully you will have an answer. 
Mandalas are symbols of community, wholeness, and spiritual journeys.
I am not going to go into the whole philosophy of the mandala here. My suggestion is for you to go to the library or internet and check out a book that can explain it in far more detail then I can on my simple blog here. 

Art Journal Assignment: 
Drawing a mandala

1. You can either buy a coloring book of mandalas and color in them, or you can make your own. 
a. draw a circle, fold it in half, then half again. 
b. Keep in mind that a mandala is a symmetric design and is repeated from one quarter to the other. 
2. Drawing a mandalas is a time for you to be still, calm, and quite so you can focus on the big questions in your life. So, before you begin coloring, ask yourself a question, you might ask what you could do to change your life so you can enjoy it and have more fun with family and friends. 
3. While the design is repeated from one quarter to the other quarter, meaning what is put on the right is also drawn on the left. YOU can color it anyway you wish. 
4. When you finished, turn over your drawing and write the acronym B.L.E.S.S.M.E. 
(body, lifestyle, emotions,social,spiritual,mind,environment.).
Now write 2 activities that came up that you could do. Do not worry if you didn't think of something for each category.  I personally like to keep the B.L.E.S.S.M.E. acronym in my active thinking. 
5. Have fun with this, be creative, and don't censor yourself. 
keep this list handy and commit to making those changes within the month. 
I like to put these suggestion on my daily calendar so I can make plans to do the activities. 

Kitchen Assignment:
Let's Get Cooking 
For me, since I'm spending more time at home and in the kitchen learning how to eat clean and healthy, I have been turning some of my favorite recipes into a healthier recipes. 

Vegan Magic Cookie Bars 
I love magic bars, so I went hunting for a healthy version. 
My family loved this one. It's gooey on the inside, sticky all over and 
Marvelously Magic!!

Field Trip:
If you can, if it's this time of year where you live. 
Go to a Farmers Market.
There is nothing like fresh vegetables from the farmers. 
I had such a wonderful day with my daughter Sarah. We went to all the booths, asked questions,*(because everything is handmade), and came home with very fresh and unusual vegetables.

I came home and made with all the fresh vegetables, vegetable dumplings, with fried shisuto peppers. 

There's lots of more activities for the letter M, and I will most likely continue posting later.

I'm always up for a drive and walk in nature

I just got back from a visit with my son Matthew. 
He lives in Idaho and as we were driving I looked out the window of the car and thought, "Look at the colors of Fall here. They are so vivid and beautiful." 
I'm working hard to live in the present moment of my life and not get to carried away with making future plans when I'm in a real life adventure I have already planned. 
So, on this wonderful drive, there is nothing like seeing farm land in Fall.

It's a treasure hunt around the world.

After opening our geocache and discovering its treasures we too put a little treasure inside and folded it up and replaced it for someone else to find.

Where do I get my inspiration????
From Life itself. 
But, there are times when I just can't think of a single thing to do or help myself get out of a slump. 
I made this little jar of 100 slips of Good Intentions. 
I read so much, I have joined so many clubs, and blogs. The information alone on Pinterest is exhausting sometimes. 
To help myself not waste so much time on the computer I came up with 100 things to do when I need inspiration. 

The only rule is, when I draw one of these slips out of the jar,

One of my Assignments in the course 
"A Life of Happiness and Fulfillment",
 was to anonymously leave notes of encouragement wherever you go for someone to find and hopefully brighten up their day. 
I have been doing this with my art note cards for years, and although I never sign the note I sure hope it puts a smile on someones face for that day. 
Give it a try. I would love to hear what you wrote on your slips of encouragement.

I'm ready for Fall

Are you ready for Fall? 
I am now that I got all my essential oils in their containers. 

I keep these little containers close to my bed and use them just before I go to sleep. 
This is my Fall collection. 
Cedarwood, Clove Bud, Frankincense, and Orange. 

I melt down the Vaseline and then mix in the oils. 

What are the properties of these amazing oils. 
1. Cedarwood.

L is for living in Awe

What is your biggest dream? 

Ohhh the living in Awe....have you ever dreamed so hard that life just had to happen that way? 
It is very possible to live like that. 
It is my belief that when you set out your dreams God hears them. 
Of course it doesn't happen as soon as you open your eyes...Oh no!! 
Can you imagine everything that has to be moved around and shuffled for your dream to happen. But, it will happen in Divine Timing. 
Write down your dreams, look at it often, write down an action plan, look at that too. 
Say in gratitude, thank you for this dream, this life, this adventure. Thank you for the dream, the plan, the life. 
Let's live in Awe, Let's live in gratitude.

 Week Thirteen

"Ever Since Happiness heard your name, it has been running through the streets trying to find you. ~Hafiz  

Lighten Up this week....Let's have some fun!

You know how much I love to daydream, so this week we are going to dream the big dreams....Let go and live leisurely!!
 One of the first things I did after I sat quickly with this daydreaming assignment was to get on YouTube and start traveling to all the places I want to see. The next thing I did was to start looking up recipes from all those places, after that it I asked Google to take me to the best spas in the world and I tried to create them in my own bathroom!!!
 I learned how to meditate with mantras and mudras and learned how to do yoga for my face!!
Of course you will have your own daydreams.   
What would you do if the limits were off your life?  
Yes, while your dreaming let's just take it to the top. 

Journal writing assignment: 
What would you do if you had a day that was made just for you? 

1. Get comfortable, put some music on,  light a candle, and close your eyes. Take three long deep breaths, in and out. Sit for 10 minutes and just daydream. 
2.. Write your dreams, this can be by lists, or paragraphs, or by a story.....

Art Journal Assignment:
How could I possibly have a week of L without doing LOVE?
1. Draw a Big heart on your page. 
2. Fill in the whole heart with designs, lines, circles, shapes, dots....whatever you want . 
3. Color it in. 

Assignment Two:

Once I started to think about the words of L, my list went off the page!!

L, is going to be my new favorite letter
1. Make a collage using the whole page with words that start with L. 

One of the things I look up when I travel to a new area is Labyrinths. I ask Google if there are any labyrinths in the place I'm staying or surrounding areas. 
You will be surprised where you find them and how common they are .

I found this one in Idaho Falls and used it for one of my assignments in Healing with the Arts. 
If you need more inspiration on how to live a life full to the top, may I suggest a movie.

How has karma effected you? 

Some say karma doesn't come back to you until your next go around here.  
Some believe karma comes back to you now is better then later. 
Some just don't believe in karma. 
Others don't understand it. 

"Karma moves in two directions. If we act virtuously, the seed we plant will result in happiness. If we act non-virtuously, suffering results. "

Here is a little story about karma....I was in the parking lot walking to my car. I looked down and saw a penny. Now those  of you who know me , know that I find money all the time, pennies, dimes, and dollars...I'm just  lucky that way.  I don't always keep these lucky pennies. No, sometimes I say a little prayer or wish with them and then throw them back so someone else can have good luck too.  So, on this day, I said my wish and prayer and threw the penny right over my shoulder......I hear "OMG did I just get hit by a penny!!!"
Now my question to you is....Was that good karma for me or bad karma for him? or vise a versa?

Do you think there is a driving force that inspires you? Explain.

Absolutely! I once thought after a surgery that I would give up art and just concentrate on healing. I closed my door to the studio and went on with my life. ...Or so I thought. I was miserable. The time I spent healing I would find myself getting on the computer looking up museums, and artwork online.....I wondering why am I not painting?  I finally realized that creating art is in me, I can not, not do it!

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment? Why?

The painting of the Metropolis Arch. My husband and I went for a ride and came to a ghost town in Nevada, Metropolis. We walked all around the old town taking photos and imagining what it would have been like to live there back in the days when it was thriving. 
Kerry gave the photo to me and asked if I felt I could paint it. I laid out the grid, measuring the horizontal lines, I just couldn't get the brick wall from looking like it was going to fall. My son Matthew who is a remarkably  creative person himself, took one look at it and said I the problem is there is more than one horizontal line crossing.......Between the two of us working together we got it laid out correctly and to this day it's my favorite painting because I got to work with both Kerry and Matthew. 
Learning how to paint something so that it is pleasing to the eye and bring pleasure to someone, well that's pretty cool.

What is your typical day like?

My day changes from day to day. Now that my husband has retired we have changed our lives to be more active together. I also have a grandson I watch twice a week, so that takes care of two days of no painting. 
But on the days I get to my studio, I get in around 10 am, I set my timer for one hour. I feel that for me one solid  hour is plenty of time for good quality work. I need to get up and stretch, move around, clean my brushes etc....I am back at it for another hour after that. Some days I work up to fours a day, others only an hour. I no longer plan daily studio time. 
My lifestyle is now about living creatively by inspiring others through my new blog
Creative Life A thru Z
I had taken a Healing Arts course from the University of Florida, and was so inspired  by it that it changed the way I'm living my life now. 

How much of your own life is reflected in your work?

Well of course when I was an art student learning how to paint portraits I used my children as models. Later, my artwork became conceptual and I was expressing my emotions. Now I paint landscapes that please me, flowers I find interesting. On occasion I will still paint abstract but those are in my private collection.

Were there any obstacles that you had to overcome in order for you to succeed? Explain.

Of Course!!...Outside of 3 or 4 art classes and a couple of workshops I am pretty much a self taught artist. 
I have loads of art instruction books, biographies of artists, and marketing books. I had to learn how to make a website, market myself online and get my own artwork out to the public. 
There is a whole business side to becoming an artist that they don't teach you when your taking art classes. 
Persistence, patience, and a strong belief that your work is good.

 Week Twelve 

Key to your desires, Jean Hart 
If you have just joined me here at my Healing Arts Creative Life Journal, feel free to join in. You can start here or go back to the first week,"A". 
This is a work in progress and I add thing to it as I think of them. 
Kick it UP!
The season has changed here, it's Fall where I live . 
I love Fall, and I'm not sure why this is but September has always felt more like the beginning of a new year, not nine months into the year. Maybe it's because our schools start in September, and school has always been about newness and starting again. 

Do not underestimate the power of a routine!

Yes, I said routine. I know routines can be boring, however, with the best routines in place you can get a few things done on autopilot. 
On autopilot you can feel like your getting things done even on those days that you are just not feeling like getting out of bed. 
The best information I took away from the class,  Preventing Chronic Pain, was the acronym B.L.E.S.S.ME.
Which stands for Body, Lifestyle, Emotions, Social, Spiritual, Mind, Environment. 
If you can find time in your week to attend  to each one of these categories you will have a well balanced life. 
Activity for this week:
7 Day Challenge
1. Go to your journals, assign each day of the week with one of the acronyms. 
2. Place it in your morning routine, or evening routine. Whenever you feel you have time to donate to this new activity. 
Having a good regiment for your own peace of mind is a blessing and takes discipline. 

Art Journals:
Kicking up your life means that you understand where your life is going. What you need, where you are going, Why, and with whom . 
1. Draw several a keys, your choice how many,  on card stock....make them all different styles and sizes. 
2. Trace them onto your journal page. 
3. Color them in with colored pencil. 
4. Next, give each key a goal, or activity, person, or place. ( think person, place or thing)
These keys represent your key events in your life. 
and the size of the key will give you the importance of these events to you.  

Writing Journal:
1. Look at your key drawing, start with the largest key. 
Write why this is so important to you. 
Is there something you can add to it to make it better, or change in anyway.  Are you happy that this key is the biggest thing that's KICKING UP YOUR LIFE. 
2. Do this with each key until you have written something for each key.
