The Creative Life A thru Z ~G is for Graciousness

The Creative Life A thru Z

 Week Eight

Grateful, by Jean Hart

G is for Gracious!!

What does being gracious mean?

According to the Word of the Day, which defines graciousness as :
  • pleasantly kind, benevolent, and courteous.
  • characterized by good taste, comfort, ease, or luxury:
  • gracious suburban living; a gracious home.
  • indulgent or beneficent in a pleasantly condescending way, especially to inferiors.
  • merciful or compassionate:
  • our gracious king
  • Obsolete. fortunate or happy.
I've been watching "The Crown"on Netflix.
While I didn't know much about Queen Elizabeth II,
I feel like I know her much better now. I can't get enough of the HRH and family.
I would say that after watching The Crown, Queen Elizabeth II was certainly the definition of Graciousness.

Writing Journal Activity:
I can not do a week of G's without gratitude, graciousness , and generosity.
I leave this up to you to write in your journals about what you are
grateful for,  gracious, and generous  about.

Outdoor activity:
It is summertime here where I live. On that thought I must get outside while the weather is nice, although a bit too hot. Soon Fall and Winter will be here and I will be under a blanket of snow.

"Earthing"
It's when you walk outside barefoot and make contact with the surface of the Earth. The electrons from the earth penetrates through the soles of your feet generating balance and good health.
I did it all the time as a young girl, but now it not only has a name, but a good reason for doing it.
Grass Walking
Let's get walking on the grass barefoot. The studies show that there are many good reasons for doing this for your health.
I started to do this, and I just thought this is fun, and what a great way to begin the day.
I went outside in the early morning,  and walking barefoot across my grass  I watched the sunrise.

I love technology, and because this is a internet blog I'm just going to refer you to a YouTube video on this subject, it will list all the benefits for walking on the grass barefoot.

I have one more fun Outside Activity.
Giggling
If you haven't been giggling lately you are missing out on the fun!
This activity works best with a few people in a circle, but if you're really self aware you can do this alone.
It's called Laughing Yoga.
You can just start with little giggles and work up to big belly laughing.
This too has great health benefits.

As always have fun with this.

The Creative Life A thru Z ~F's Big Question

The Big Question?

?
Who or what inspires your creative urges?

Yesterday afternoon I heard thunder, so I knew we were not going to go kayaking.
I put my apron on and started looking through my magazines for something to bake.
I went to Martha Stewart's Living Magazine and found a recipe for
Chocolate Mayonnaise Cupcakes with Chocolate Mayonnaise Frosting.
Martha never lets me down.
She is my inspiration.
In my mothers day it was Julia Child's cooking, and for my daughter it is Rachael Ray.
But for me it's Martha Stewart.

When I started this blog I was looking for ways that I could bring in creative ideas and expressions into my life.
Just putting on the apron alone would have done it, but baking a cake from scratch!!
Well this made me feel accomplished!!
It was well worth the little mess in the kitchen, and to my surprise it really wasn't that hard.
Tell me what inspires you?
Be Inspired,

Interview with an Artist

Jean Hart Artwork
Interview With an Artist
Jean Hart , Artist

Hello, first may I thank you all for following me on my blog,
The Creative Life A thru Z
and  asking me questions. It's been awhile since I've introduced myself to everyone.
Since I started this new blog  "The Creative Life A thru Z" I've had lots of questions.

1. What is this blog about?
After taking a Healing Arts class I had a chance to really look at my life and ask myself some tough questions. This blog for me started as a way of putting together art, creative activities, and doing self awareness projects.  It is the beginning of a course, workbook, or just a fun gathering of like minded people.
I am constantly adding to it as I find more interesting projects that reflect creative living to me.
This blog is a work in progress.

2. When was the first time that you remember realizing that you are a creative person?
I think I have always felt I was creative. As a young child I would spend hours alone creating art, sculpting, sewing. But, as you get older you do others things to make a living. I started this blog as a way of getting back to the creative life I had as a young child. Many of the activities are from my childhood revisited.

3. When did you know that this was what you wanted to do with your life? How did you get started?
Being an artist was something that came back to me after I had a back injury. It was during that time of recovery that I started to draw again. I began to show my work publicly, and then learned how to market myself. It has been such a joy to have art back in my life. In the beginning I would put my artwork in competitions and I would win ribbons and awards, this made me feel confident. Outwardly, that gave me confidence knowing that other people liked my artwork. However, inwardly I was not feeling it.
I had to pull myself out of the public for awhile, go inside myself and really ask how I was doing.
That's when I started to take "Healing Art" courses, and psychology classes. I was still having to deal with how the injury had changed my life.

4. What traits, if any, do you think that creative people have as compared to people who are not creative?
Actually, I find that most people are creative. The difference to me is that the highly creative people take their ideas to a completion.

5. Do you believe that training has influenced what you create?

Yes! Training and or education is the best way to open yourself up to creative thinking?
When you are with a group of creative people, it is so exciting to watch how ideas grow.
My hope is for people to take what I have to offer and then expand on it to make it personal to them.

Thank you for the questions, yes there were many more questions asked, but for now I think this will be enough.  I will put a question into the blog now and then to keep the conversation going.

The Creative Life A thru Z

 Week Seven

F is for FUN!!
~
Yes, Fun!, Of course it could be for Films, Foreign Languages, Food, Future, or even Five minute vacations.
Let's shift our mind set to fun first.
What is fun?
Some people think fun is reading, being outside,
 or cooking in the kitchen.
It's a very specific activity to you.
What you think is fun someone else may not.
I think anything that makes time go by quickly,
something you are enjoying, you are having fun at.

I like process.
I believe my purpose is creating processes to get to destinations.
In that thinking I like lists.
I find lists help me be proactive, not reactive in my life.
Life is suppose to be enjoyed, fun, and filled with love.
I do activities which help me reach those goals.

Benjamin Franklin said, and I quote,
"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."

In the pursuit of fun, wonder, and play.
Let's get started.
Gypsy Women  (~jean)

5. Is there a active step you can take today for your life tomorrow?

Five minute Vacations.
Do you want more adventures in your life? More travel?
I can't always go where my imagination takes me. But, since YouTube is only a few keystrokes away,
I can go all over the world in minutes.
I look up places in the world I would like to visit and watch these videos.
Just watching them transports me to new places.
It really feels like I have taken a five minute vacation and then I'm ready to get back to work.
Let your imagination take you away!!

The Creative Life A thru Z

 Week Six

E is for Environment
Jean Hart Artwork

The Big Question?

?
A lot of life has to do with the environment you surround yourself with.
This includes, body, mind, and spirit.
Look around you, and keep your mind in the present moment.
?
Do you want to know how it ends?

Stay focused, now close your eyes
and imagine what outcome you want to have in a certain situation you have been thinking about.
Journal activity:
Next, write down what needs to be done to make that happen.
Third, take one action today in that direction.

Amazing things happen when you take the time for the mind and imagination to come together.

Tree house

One day I came home from work and there in the tree, next to the driveway was my son hammering away at slats of wood,  he was making a tree house out of the of wood he found around the house.  He has long since grown up and moved on to his own home. But, the tree house has stayed. It's filled with birds now.
Not a day goes by that I don't look out my studio window and see that tree house and think of my son. I have painted this tree house a few times in paintings.

Journal Activity:

1. Look out your windows. What do you see?
2. Pick a window and draw what you see, using the
window frame as the boundaries for the painting.
3. If you like it, transfer the drawing to a canvas and paint it.

E is for Environment
Enjoying a clean environment is essential to having a creative life.
Cleaning up is just put of life and being able to find what you need when you need it, is awesome
Studio Assignment:
1. Go through your materials and organize them.
Throw out old paint tubes, brushes, bits of pastels......
2. Arrange what is most used where you can easily find them.

E is for Earth
Journal writing:
There are probably 101 ways to help the earth.
For this week, look up ways you can incorporate an environmentally friendly idea into your own life.
Find a task and write about it after you have completed the task.
1. Is it something you think you can continue doing ?
2. Is it something you are not already doing?
3. How does it make you feel to do this task?

Amazing things happen when you sit still and relax

The Creative Life A thru Z

 Week Five

D is for Drama
Jean Hart Artwork

Drama Drama Drama

I came across this wonderful story and
I just had to share it with you for this week.

The Song of the Pearl
An Ancient Gnostic Poem

The Song of the Pearl, "tells the story of the prince who wears a gorgeous jewel encrusted robe. One day his parents tell him that he must take off the magnificent robe and journey out from his homeland into an alien country where he will find a precious pearl guarded by a fierce dragon. He is instructed to tame the dragon and bring the Pearl back to the kingdom. In so doing he will be permitted to wear the robe again and share the sovereignty of the kingdom with his brother. The prince unquestioningly obeys the king and queen and well supplied with princely goodies sets off on his journey. On reaching his destination, he feels lonely and disoriented. He adopts the clothes and customs and language of the people and forgets who he is and why he is there. He falls into a sort of trance. Hearing of this, his parents write a letter reminding him of his regal heritage and his mission. They attach it to an eagle and dispatch the eagle to the prince. The eagle and the message awaken the prince from his trance. He hypnotizes the dragon with wondrous words and then, with the help of the eagle, he returns home, pearl in hand. He is warmly welcomed and delighted to gaze again on the glorious robe. He sees it reflecting the magnificence and unity of all creation. He covers himself with its splendour and joyfully takes his place beside his brother as crown Prince of the kingdom. "

An Ancient Gnostic Poem, The Hymn of the Robe of Glory, " The Song of the Pearl".

I'm still studying the myths and ancient stories, this is a story of the journey of human consciousness. Through the path of separateness, on towards the Divine journey home.
I present this to you to make your own interpretations and to see the wonderful symbols within this myth, it has survived the test of time in its perennial wisdom,
Please enjoy the story and the artwork.

D is for Donuts N Drama

"Delight in the Little Things."
 Rudyard Kipling

Years ago I found myself teaching in a preschool.
Each morning the children would come in, hang their coats, and sit at the table for breakfast.
One of the best memories I have of one of these many breakfasts the school severed was homemade donuts.
Warm and sugary straight from the kitchen.
I'm not sure if this was teaching any of us about healthy eating or good nutrition, but those donuts were certainly a delight.
You can make these wonderful delights as long as you have biscuit dough handy.
So, that's what I did!
I invite you to make donuts too. Easy recipes are found on the Internet.

Homemade Donuts, Delightful

glaze

shape the donuts

fry the donuts

toss them in the glaze

This was the first batch, since then I have gotten much better shaping the donuts and
I'm working on a maple glaze.

DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA
No, I'm not talking about personal drama here.
I'm talking about PLAYS, Drama Theater
Have you ever read a play?
The format is different then reading a book, and interesting how the set is put together, and the actors directions.
I love live theater, if you have a chance to see a play performed on stage, GO!
You can find live plays on YouTube.
That's were I watched Neil Simon's play "Rumors."
The very first play I read when I was in theater was Neil Simon's "Star Spangled Girl".
They made a movie of it too.

This weeks assignment:

1.  Go to the library and pick up a play to read.
2. Check out the plays on YouTube to watch.
3. Go to a live theater and see a play.

Journal Work:
Draw
1. Draw a one line drawing design .
Lay the pencil down on the page and
do not lift it again until you are done with your design.

2. Make your own Logo Design with your initials
Use the whole page and let this logo express who you are. Paint it, color it, glitter it up.

If you need to be still and
breath deeply before creating
Two Minutes in Nature
is a good way to relax.

As always have fun, like and share.
Check back often as I found I'm always adding things to this list as I develop the curriculum.
Be Inspired,
