Weigh In Day after the vacation

Weigh In Day
August 10, 2014

Started Jan, 2014

Beginning weight 250lbs

Today's 230.8

Total weight lost 19.2

BMI 38.5

cal. intake 1388

need to lose 83lbs

estimate date May 20, 2015

A gain of 1.4 pounds.
Vacation, that's what happened. I had so much fun on my vacation. The family, the food, the wine, the cakes....yes there were cakes.
Something else happened when I got home though. I was kind of depressed, totally unmotivated, and didn't exercise at all or plan healthy meals.
I also did not get on the scale until today, a week after I got home from my vacation!
I just knew I had gained weight so I avoided the scale.
As it turns out there is a real depression that takes hold of you after a vacation.
Turning to YouTube I found this:
Post Vacation Stress
On Friday we went to Twin Falls for my chiropractor appointment and I got great news. I have improved so much that I can now come in every other week for an adjustment and P/T.
I credit losing weight to exercising, planning healthy meals and meditating.
This motivated me to get myself back on track. As you can see I have a lot more weight to lose and a long time to do it.
I got back on track first by drinking more water this week. I did not drink enough water over my vacation. It is the easiest step to take when you're trying to gather yourself back from a gain.
Second, I started adding more vegetables to my meals. Fresh raw vegetables and cooked. Limiting my fruits for now.
3. I brought out my measuring tools.
4. Started to use my Lose It app on my phone.
5. On Monday the exercise will come back.
I still have some mental work to do. I have to get better at looking at food as Risk/Reward. The risk of eating or drinking something, is it worth the depression of a gain, or the happiness of the Reward. It's a battle with each meal. I love to cook. This is one of the meals we made this week end and in the right proportion they can be eaten a stay within my calorie limit.
Bacon wrapped pork with Bourbon Barbecue Sauce 4 oz, harvest peaches 1/2 cup, homemade red mashed potatoes 2 table spoons, green beans with shallots, bacon and walnuts 1/2 cup, and a Cesar salad 1/2 cup.
I can't eat only lettuce and meat. But I can eat this. So if you plan your plans and keep with the measurements you don't have to feel deprived of tasty food.

The Dreaded Plateau

started Jan, 2014

beginning weight 250lbs

today's 229.4

Total weight lost 20.6

BMI 38.3

cal. intake 1385

need to lose 79lbs

estimate date April 13, 2015

I now go to the doctor every six months for a check up...On the left is the doctors scale and on the right is mine.
For the last month I have been on a plateau. I have been waiving between 230 to 228...up and down. No higher, no lower.
My doctor sat with me and explained how plateau's work. She said it is time for me to up my exercise program. Yoga is nice, she says, but you need to get out there and get your heart pumping. Cardio is good for burning calories, and helping you to get your blood pressure down.
What did I hear her say? Sign up for the Lazyman Triathlon.
So that is exactly what Sarah and I did.
We have now added walking/running 26.2 miles, swimming  2.5 miles, and biking 112 miles,to our yoga routine.
The Lazyman Triathlon is a one month long program to get all the activities in.
I have said this before, it's the swimming that  my body responds to. I'm at a point in my weight loss journey where it's now all about moving, burning calories, and getting my heart beating.

Kerry and I did the Freedom Run on Fourth of July. It is our 3rd 5K this summer.
It was a perfect day to walk around the marina. .
I got new shoes so I wont get Runner's Toes again. Note, they are still purple,  yellow and ugly.
I have since painted them with polish so I don't have to look at them.
We are getting better at our walks. I am no longer the last person to cross the finish line.
This time we even passed two groups of walkers. YEAH!!!
Kerry got 4th place in his age group and I got 12th.
I am going to buy a stop watch for our next 5K so we can keep track of our times. I can not see the screen of my phone when I'm outside.
Fourth of July came was lots of food, good and bad.
Why is it I still think I deserve to eat desserts if I exercise?
Ice Cream, brownies, fudge sauce ....
Plus after the race, I went down for a 5 hour nap!!
Have you ever napped so hard that when you woke up you thought it was the next day?
I'm mentally at a stand still. All this exercising is making me sore, and tired.
My motivation for cooking and eating right has slipped. I have stopped using my "lose it" app. which I can now see how important it is to write everything down....
I can't really afford this kind of behavior. My journey is long and I can see I'm slipping back into bad habits quickly.
So......I think I will have to weigh myself more often, write my food intake in again at each meal, and plan meals. I have the exercise part down but not the "I'm too tired to cook anything healthy".
Everything needs help and attention.
check this out for idea's to help break a plateau.

Yes, of course there's always just going into child pose and staying there until the need to snack passes.

Weigh In Day

Weigh In Day
Oh Blast!!!
Well I am sure it was bound to happen.
With all the parties, the drinking and not being able to swim. I gained 1 one.
First time since I started this journey.
Yes, it depressed me. It feels like I have wasted the whole month......
So did I eat?
Well let me tell you a little story about last night.
Never underestimate the power of a good friend.
Last night my art group went out to dinner. I immediately saw Montichrsto sandwich on the menu.
I said, yes, that's what I'm having. They are the deep fried three Decker sandwich that no one should eat. I was the last one to order. The waitress took the orders around the table, shrimp, shrimp wrapped in bacon, halibut...my turn, I just said halibut too, please. The words just fell out of my mouth. I fully intended to have the Montichristo, but I just couldn't order it.
This morning was weigh in and I may have gained but I don't think it was because I eat fish.
I looked up an interesting website this morning. I'm not on a diet plan. I count calories.
But I looked up
Food Addicts Anonymous

FAA Basic Food Plan
BreakfastLunch(4 hrs. after breakfast)
Dinner
(5 hours after lunch)
MA
(Metabolic Adjustment)

(4 hours after dinner)
1 Protein1 Protein1 Protein1 Dairy or 2 oz. Protein
1 Dairy1 Cooked Vegetable1 Cooked Vegetable1 Fruit
1 Fruit1 Fresh vegetable1 Fresh Vegetable
1 Grain or Starchy Vegetable1/2 Daily Oil1 grain or starchy vegetable
Men: add 1 fruit or 1 grain, or 1 starchy vegetable 1/2 Daily Oil
I found this site to have lots of information. I'm not sure how many calories this day is, but I think it's a lot less then I'm eating now. I eat way more protein, veg and fruit.
I have printed this and put it on my refrigerator and I'm going to use it for a week and see how I feel.
Weight gain happens. One pound could easily be water weight, muscle gain, or fat. But, the important thing is, it is just one measurement on this very long journey.
Get back on track with the next meal.
I'm so thankful for me friends. They would have let me have the montichristo, because they are not judgemental.....but I know that because we are all trying so hard. Being in good company and eating well just feels better.

Weigh In Day

Weigh In Day
May 29th, 2014
That's the next weigh in on the scale.
But there are different ways to measure your success.
Lot's of things have changed since I started this journey in January.
Measuring changes can be seen more in my attitude about food. The dinner plate above looks pretty full. Look closely and you will notice that 3/4 of the plate is vegetables and fruit, pasta is 2 tablespoons and the chicken is about 2 oz.
I am determined to lose weight by eating real food. Mostly not processed but fresh. I am not losing my weight with shakes, protein bars, fasting or paying for pre-made meals.
I want to learn to eat and control myself with real food, homemade meals. I have to cook every day for the family so why would I punish myself by starving, eating separate special "diet" foods, or shakes. That's not living.
I wish I had taken my measurements when I started in January.
It's a good way to measure how you are doing when the scale wont move!!
Here I go.....
I started at a size tight 22W and I'm now wearing pants 16W
Neck 16 1/2"
Bust 48"
Upper arm 15"
Waist 44"
Hips 49"
thighs 24 1/2"
Calf 15 1/2"
Those are my numbers, I thought about not posting them, but then that would not be looking at myself honestly. If I needed anymore motivation , well here it is.
I will take measurements every 3 months. Remember my estimated goal is Feb. 14th, 2015.
This is not about , quick loss, it's about permanent weight loss, life style changes, and getting healthy.
It's the small things that change at different intervals that keeps me motivated.
EXERCISE

I hurt my toes doing my 5K walk last week. I went to the doctor to make sure they were not infected. She told me to stay off them for one week and not to swim for two weeks.
Even doing yoga last week at home hurt my toes!!!
But I can't not exercise. It's a routine I have put into my day and know that it is helpful for my weight loss plan. Not to mention, my knees, back and joints.
It would have been easy for me to say, Great stay off my feet and watch TV.
NOPE!!! Don't go there.
I looked up on YouTube some chair exercises to do . There are many to choose from so each day you can do a different one.
Next week I will be back to yoga classes.
Peace and Namaste

Wiegh In Day
starting weight 250 lbs
today's weight 228.2
Total loss 21.8 lbs
BMI 36.9
need to lose 74.8 lbs
estimated date Feb. 13, 2015
calorie intake 1371

YES!!! I'm in the 20's baby!!!
As you can see, it goes slow. The last weigh in is the official weight from the Doctors office.
It's the scale that started this journey.
On Mother's Day, my daughter took me for a 5K walk, that's 3.2 miles. I'm in training because I have a 5K walk coming up this Sat. in Pocatella, Id.
Looks like for that length of time I do a 22 min. mile. Not so fast, but, oh so happy to be walking again.
I'm really hoping not to be the last one to the finish line. But if it happens, I have to be happy just to participate. Those who know me, know I'm competitive and this is a hard hit on my ego,
Oh bien!!
Who is on my team for this journey.
It is true I have put together a supportive team to help me with my physical care.
1. Primary Doctor, really you can't do without one. Find one who makes you comfortable because there's just a lot of embarrassing conversations that take place in order for them to help.
2. Chiropractor, I will never live without one. My Wizard, does acupressure.
3. Acupuncturist, since I don't have one where I live, everywhere I travel, I see one.
4. Massage Therapy, This took me along to find one that was right for me. I call her a "Healer", because I believe great spirits work through her hands.
5. Yoga, so much fun, free yourself to just be a beginner.
6. Meditate, it's a must everyday
7. Swim, for me this is the activity that really burns calories.
8. Walk, joining in on walking 5K has really been fun
9.  Phone app "Lose It", extremely helpful
10. Eating only real, whole, healthy foods.
11. Supporters, that's family, friends who are there for you when you just don't want to do this anymore.
I have a long journey ahead of me. Believe me there are days when I just want to stop. But, truthfully, I can not.  So, if it doesn't challenge you it will not change you.
Of course some days are perfect!!! But most are decisions meal by meal.
This week is my daughters Birthday....just after Mother's Day.....Celebrations....
fancy foods......desserts......wine......
This is Life, celebrations never stop so I have prepared.
Here is my menu for the Birthday Dinner
Smoked glazed Chicken
Mashed potatoes, with Ranch Dressing
Green mixed salad
Garlic Bread
No Wine,,,,,probably tea
Dessert
strawberry, kiwii , coconut water pops.
(no really that's what she asked for)
Next way in will be the 29th

Weigh In Day

WEIGH IN DAY
started Jan, 2014
beginning weight 250lbs
today's weight 230.2lbs
Total weight lost 20 lbs
BMI 37.2
cal. intake 1385

YEAH!!!!!! :-))
Seems to be a 1 pound a week program, sometimes more. Over all I'm pleased with the results.
Change happens slowly. There are times when I think nothing has changed, that I'm not different at all, I'm not making any progress. Until, I'm standing in front of the cookie isle and hear myself say, "You don't need dessert, EAT FRUIT!"
Yes, that's how change works. Slowly and when your not looking. Suddenly, what you use to do, your not doing anymore.
The most changes I have felt in the last four months are; physically, I'm more active, I hurt less, and if I do hurt say my back or knees, I recover quicker. I sleep better, no more pacing the floor at 2 AM, and I believe I am generally happier.
What's the difference between change and transformation?

I named 2014 my year of TRANSFORMATION...a personal reinvention if you will....since I totally believe thoughts become action , action becomes life....and well there you go,
 thoughts becomes things.
The dictionary defines change as, "to become different,"
Reinvent, as, "to remake or redo completely."
Transform; as " to change from one kind to another,"
So, I'm thinking, change is one action, reinvent is a combination of lots of changed actions, and, transformation, it's the process.
Trust the process, fruit is better then cookies.
Knowing how much I read and love quotes here is one I now have posted on my refrigerator.
"Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change." Jim Rohn
Not sure that he meant that for food choices, but it works for me.
Loads of things going on now. Since I have said YES, to walking again. I have been signing up for 5K walks all around the state of Idaho and Nevada. My goal is to do one walk each month until Sept.
My next walk for May is in Pocatello, ID. Breakout5K. We will be walking around the town and when we get to the jail, the COPS will chase us to the finish line. We get to eat their donuts and take mug shoots. How fun....of course even though my brain is screaming DONUTS, the words out of my mouth will be NO THANKS, I WILL JUST HAVE WATER, NO BREAD.
See what I mean about change. one change at a time.
My next weigh in will be Late May. I have blood test scheduled, so I will weigh on the scale that is official. The one that started this journey.

~jean

Weigh In Day

 Photo: LOL! #B1039Weigh In Day

No it's not weigh in day.......That's  scheduled for April 30th.
But, I am so busy with continuing to diet and exercise and hold fast to my program.
For me now it is not a diet but a new way of life. The weighing in is just a weigh of monitoring if what I'm doing is working. My goal is to stay active, be mindful of good healthy whole foods, and bring in a whole life style change.
I'm not one for fasting, or doing cleansing programs. But, my daughter has just finished a 3 week cleansing and she lost 15lbs. :-)
I'm not going to do that, but what has come from watching her is her new vegan diet. I know I'm a little late to the vegan table. I think the best way to incorporate a vegan diet into my life will be to just do a vegan menu one day a week.
I am planing her birthday dinner in May and I think I will be trying some new recipes.
I am inspired.
While looking for recipes I came across this woman. I love her easy style of cooking.
Enjoy Cheif Skai

I am also hooked on walking. I have signed up for two run/walk fundraisers.
They are both 5K's. That means I better get training.
It's been a great way for Kerry and I to travel and see new towns.
May's Walk is a 5K in Pocatello, Id.
Breakout 5K
We will be walking around the town and when we get to the jail, THE COPS will chase us to the finish line. We then get to eat their donuts and take a mug shoot.
How fun does that sound.

Next week end Sarah and I are going to our first Color Festival, Holi festival.
For exercise I have been learning steps to an Indian Dance.
I can hardly wait, yoga, music, dancing, and real Indian Food.

Well, no, I'm not weighing in today, or next week, but soon, My next weigh in day is on April 30th.
But that doesn't mean I'm not sticking to my program.
Easter is this week end and to not be caught in some kind of chocolate trap,
I must prepare.
I use an app on my phone called "Lose It", it calculates my calories and I put in all my food choices for the day. I love it.
The other tools I use for every meal are, scales, measuring cups, measuring spoons, and lots of ice water.
I have told everyone who is coming for dinner. There will be no chocolate eggs, jelly beans or peeps.
What will there be?
There will be, wonderful healthy food, a great dessert of fresh fruit and chocolate almonds.
We are planning a hike for Sunday to the Ruby Marshes, a picnic lunch and then back to the house for a great Lamb Dinner.
Here is my menu:
Smoked Lamb with apricot glaze
Cashew Grape Salad *
Brussels Sprouts Salad with Cranberries and Almonds *

April's weigh in

Weigh In

233.8 lbs
16.2 total lost
BMI 37.8
need to lose 81.4
estimate date is Jan. 28, 2015
I am back on track. After two retreats in a row I wasn't sure how I would do on weigh in day.
Sarah and I went on a spring retreat. We went to an acupuncturist, where he told me I was retaining huge amounts of water, my digestive system needed a little help and my circulation was poor.
He stuck about 30 needles in me and to my surprise it didn't hurt, well except the one in my knee!!
We both came out and waited to see if anything was different. The only thing I noticed was that I was sweating consistly!!!! We then went to have a spa day at the Atlantis in Reno. OH WOW!!! What a wonderful day. My body went from, cold to hot, steam room, dry heat sauna's, cold water plug's. Showers that had Thunderstorms, Topical Rains, Icy Fog.....and a Brine Room for Respiratory Therapy.
Our favorite water was the Kiwi Cinnamon Water, here is the recipe.
I have been back for a week, and I haven't sweat since. I am getting ready for my one mile hike in Idaho Falls, Paces for Payton.
Here's my States, I do a 27 minute mile, burning 109 calories.
Not very fast....I will keep working on that.
I still do yoga. I have some really great yoga sites on YouTube. My favorite one right now is called Yin Yoga.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew9KuRkTt_Y
This will be the only weigh in for April. It's best if I only weigh in once a month.
So have a great month, see you in May,
Life is like a butterfly....

WEIGH IN

The Weigh In
WEIGH IN

I'm back from a great vacation. We went to Las Vegas for NASCAR.
So how did I do?
NASCAR LAS VEGAS
Well, honestly my food was good. We went to Walmart and got fresh vegetables, and fruit. We Barbecued each night. But I wasn't sure if the good food choices were going to out weigh the drinking!!
I also had a day of carnival eating, corn dogs and funnel cake...I love that stuff.
I did excellent walking up that hill to the speedway. I walked, and took the ramp instead of the elevator and played corn hole. So, yes all the training for this trip paid off.
But, by the time it was time to come home my ankles were so swollen I couldn't walk. I don't know what that was about but it took almost 3 days for them to go down once I came home.
The good news is ......I lost 1.5 lbs. So my total is 12.8lbs making my BMI 38.4, I need to lose 83.6 more pounds and the estimate time for this lost will be Jan. 17th, just before my birthday.
It's going slow but constistant. I love yoga the most, but it is the swimming that burns the calories. I am in training for a 1 mile walk I signed up to do in Idaho Falls in April. It's called Paces for Payton, a little girl needs a heart transplant. Anything with heart failure is close to my heart.
I love Yoga the best. Sarah and I will be going to our first Holi Festival this May. The Festival of Color is a celebration of spring, new beginning, and love.  It is from the Hindu religion.
We are super excited about that adventure.
